Transferring CSP License to Another Device
Contact Graphixly @
Hello! My name is Liz Staley and I’m a long-time user of Clip Studio Paint (I started using the program back when it was known as Manga Studio 4!). I was a beta-tester on the Manga Studio 5 program and for Clip Studio Paint, and I have written three books and several video courses about the program. Many of you probably know my name from those books, in fact. I write weekly posts on Graphixly.com and on CSP Tips, so be sure to come back every week to learn more Clip Studio Tips and Tricks from me!
I recently was able to get an iPad after not having one since a friend gave me their used Gen 1 iPad, and I’m really looking forward to being able to use Clip Studio Paint on this tablet, especially when I’m on the go.
In this article we will cover the following topics:
Downloading the App
Activating Clip Studio Paint
Let’s get our tablet set up!
Downloading the App
After setting up your iPad, open the App Store and search for “Clip Studio Paint” in the search bar. You can tap on the app in the store to look at more details, read reviews, etc. Once you’re ready, tap on the “Get” button under the app name to begin downloading.

On your iPad home screen you will see the app icon with “Installing…” underneath it while the app is being downloaded and installed.

Once the app is finished installing, it’s time to activate it in the next section!
Activating Clip Studio Paint
Once the app is installed on your iPad, it’s time to set up an account or use an existing plan before we can start using the program. Tap on the app icon to open it. You will see the following message.

If you already know you want to sign up and purchase a plan, tap on the “Sign up and get 3 months free” button. You will get a free trial period after signing up, and if you cancel during that trial period you will not be charged anything.
If you just want to try out the drawing tools, tap on “Launch in doodle mode”. You will not be able to save or export your creations when in doodle mode, but you can test out the software’s drawing tools.
Note that Clip Studio Paint for mobile (iPad, iPhone, Android) does not have a perpetual license plan option. Instead you have an option for either monthly or annual payment plans. To view current pricing of these plans, please visit the link below.

At the time of writing, there are plans available for one device, two devices, up to four devices, and also a plan for a single smartphone device. If you want to use your plan on multiple devices, such as a desktop computer, tablet, and laptop, be sure to choose the plan that covers the amount of devices that you want to use.
I am going to be deactivating the Clip Studio license from the device I will no longer be using it on and activating it on the iPad instead.
The first step in doing this process is to log in to my Clip Studio account. If you do not already have an account, tap on “Create account” at the bottom of the screen.

If you already have active plans, they will show in the next screen after you log in. Tap on the plan you wish to activate on this device. If you have no more devices available for this plan you will see the message shown below.

Note that there is a limited number of times that you can do this, so if you are going to be using CSP on multiple devices you should choose a plan that supports that many devices instead of deactivating and activating one plan across multiple devices. Eventually you won’t be able to change the plan between devices!

Once your plan has been transferred, you will see the following screen to choose a drawing mode. If you are an experienced CSP user who wants all the features visible, choose Studio Mode. If you are a new user or want a more streamlined UI, choose Simple Mode. You can switch back and forth between modes later so this is not a permanent choice!

Now you’ll be at the main page of Clip Studio! From here you can see your projects, browse assets and tips, get news, and more! To get to drawing, simply tap on the Draw button on the upper left side of the app.

Conclusion
I’m looking forward to exploring using CSP on iPad finally, as this is something I’ve wanted for a long time! Come back in the coming weeks for more insights on using the iPad app. I hope to be able to learn new things and pass them on to you!
