How did you become an artist?
I've always draw to tell stories, as long as I can remember. As a little kid, I used to do fan fictions about my favorites animes, comic books or mangas, I created new characters and new situations for fun about Dragon Ball or Ranma 1/2 universes (and some others). The lack of money didn't allow me to take art lessons or workshops, so I tried to make myself a homemade way of learning, just constantly analyzing art or stories I enjoyed. I signed my first deal with a publisher at 18 and since then, I've been comic book/ manga artist. It's been 18 years... times fly !
Where do you get inspiration?
My references were mostly manga and french comic books as a kid, but growing up, I develop a huge admiration for Impressionnist paintings. I always dig into this genre to understand how they came up with those color and light combinations ... I mostly fail to understand but it always give me something to think about and try in my artworks.
What’s your hardware setup?
I use an old Wacom Graphire 3 tablet on a Mac Mini. I just do colors on Clip Studio Paint because all my drawings are handmade and scanned.
What do you like best about Clip Studio Paint?
The paint brushes are stunning. I mostly use the flat oil paint brush, the natural feeling from it and the way it mixes colors are just perfect for me! I also love that I can use the software for screentones on my pages. 95% of my work is doing black and white manga pages, and the screentones tools on Clip Studio are just the most efficient and easy to use on the market!
How long does it take you to make a single illustration?
From 1h30 to 5 or 6hours I would say. Mostly around 2 to 3 hours I think, only for the colors.
Would you consider Clip Studio Paint an industry tool?
100% ! I've been using it for years now, and it matches all the needs for me. I recommend it often to my fellow artists to be honest.
Would you like to promote some recent project?
My manga Radiant is is a long going series, releasing issues regularly in many countries: In France and Japan volume 14th came out recently, in the US, it's volume 13th... I don't know about other countries but there's always a recent issue to grab in a book store ^^
