Auto Installing New Materials

Hello! My name is Liz Staley and I’m a long-time user of Clip Studio Paint (I started using the program back when it was known as Manga Studio 4!). I was a beta-tester on the Manga Studio 5 program and for Clip Studio Paint, and I have written three books and several video courses about the program. Many of you probably know my name from those books, in fact. I write weekly posts on Graphixly.com and on CSP Tips, so be sure to come back every week to learn more Clip Studio Tips and Tricks from me!

In December 2025 the newest version of Clip Studio Paint, Version 4.2.1, was released! There are several new and interesting features in this version that I was pretty excited to see finally being implemented, so let’s talk about one of them this week!

In this article we will cover the following topics:

Setting Up Auto Install

Let’s talk about this new feature!

Setting Up Auto Install

Auto Installation allows Clip Studio Paint to automatically install selected types of Materials to your program as soon as they’re finished downloading. You can start using your new materials right away instead of having to drag them in from the Materials Library yourself.

To set up auto install, open the Material Library, which is on the right hand side of the user interface in the default layout. If you can not find your Material Library, click on Window - Material - All Materials. In the top left of the Material Library window are three small horizontal lines, which is how you can open the Materials Library settings.

In this menu, go down to the Auto-install settings. In this menu you can click on the items that you want to be installed once they are downloaded, like Sub Tools (brushes, etc), Color sets, Gradients, Workspaces, and Auto Actions. A check mark shows next to the items that will be installed automatically.

Once you’ve checked the items you want installed, it’s time to try it out! Let’s go find something to try out by going to the Clip Studio app and clicking on the “Assets” link to go to the Assets store.

In the Assets store you can search by keyword and narrow assets down by asset type and cost as well. For this example I simply clicked on the “Brush” filter without entering a keyword.

Once you’ve found something to download, click on the “Checkout Now” button if it is a paid asset, or “Download Now” if it’s a Free asset.

Once your download is finished, head back to Clip Studio Paint. In the tool bar area you will see an icon at the top that is a downward arrow inside of a circle. Clicking here will show downloaded brushes and gradient sets. Auto installed Color Sets can be found in the Color Set palette, Auto Actions will show in the Auto Action palette’s drop-down menu, and Workspaces can be found under Window - Workspace.

Of course if you download quite a few assets that you want to continue using, you will probably want to move them into organized Sub Tool categories rather than leaving them in the Download area.

The pen that I downloaded will be much easier to find in the Pen category! In the Download window, click and drag the tool to the icon of the category you wish to add it to in the Tool Bar.

Clicking on the sub tool category that you dropped the new tool into will show that the tool has been added, but in its own sub tool folder! This can get confusing after a bit so I want to put this into the already existing “Pen” sub tool category.

Click on the sub tool in the folder and drag it to the existing folder you want to move it to. The red line will show you where you are dragging it to. Release once the folder you are over is outlined to complete the move.

Conclusion

This is such a small and easy to use feature but it has the potential to save a lot of time, especially if you like to collect and use a wide variety of Materials!
